What makes Cannabis an Aphrodisiac?

Valentine’s day is soon, one thing that tends to put me in the mood is cannabis, I love weed! Why is that, and can weed really increase your sex drive? There is a lot of folklore regarding cannabis being a natural aphrodisiac, but is that the case in scientific studies? It looks like although there is conflicting data and more studies are needed, a majority of studies state over the years, there is a correlation between increased libido and cannabis use.

Frequent users of cannabis were noticed to have increased libido in this study. For many cannabis makes a difference in whether someone is able to orgasm or not. This may result in an improved mood, with increased confidence. Weed and orgasms help the cycle of feeling good continue! For these reasons smoking cannabis has been a ritual for me before intimacy with myself or a partner for many years now.

Libido Booster and Mood Lifter

One of the feel-good molecules in cannabis is Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which stimulates the release of dopamine (the happiness hormone) it also gives a sense of bliss by stimulating a neurochemical called anandamide.

It really depends on the user whether or not cannabis increases their libido. Overall, there are many studies and personal experiences that reflect cannabis as a libido-boosting substance, and a general mood lifter. Over the last century, most studies prove the correlation between enhanced sex drive and cannabis. This topic could benefit from more scientific research as some people feel aroused while smoking, some do not, and for others, it may fall somewhere in between. If someone tends to be flirty, it may increase that when smoking. If they are shy, it may amplify that mood as well. While this is the case, for many people cannabis can help with orgasms and increased pleasure during anal stimulation.

If you smoke too much it can reduce libido. There is such a thing as getting too high. A moderate dose of cannabis is best as many scientific studies state.  It seems that personal experiences and the amount of THC within the cannabis consumed are both major factors in how cannabis will affect libido.

Cannabis can help with orgasms, especially for women

Are you having a hard time orgasming as a woman? It’s sad but common that climaxing for women is anything but easy. Luckily cannabis does help with that for many women. Women may have improved satisfaction with orgasms from using cannabis in this study. Increased sex drive, improvement in orgasm and decreased in pain were all found to be benefits of the women that used cannabis. In my experience, there’s nothing better than getting a little stoned before a pleasurable activity.

Personal Experience: How I use Cannabis as an Aphrodisiac

I do like the relaxing act of smoking, I have been smoking for many years so it has become a sensual habit for me. Smoking cannabis does help me orgasm more easily, and I feel like I can have more fun during sex. You have to be mature, relaxed and able to laugh at yourself to feel comfortable during sex. When something awkward happens, you want to be confident enough to laugh about it with your partner and have fun. Weed definitely helps me get into that fun, bubbly headspace where I can enjoy more of the moment. I personally like to smoke a lot before I have sex, but I can see how for many smoking more than 1 joint prior can lead to some intimacy issues.

Conclusion: Is Cannabis an Aphrodisiac?

For many people, cannabis is an aphrodisiac. The honest truth is, however, that it does depend, it is not an aphrodisiac for all people. Out of all of the studies I came across, what they seemed to have in common is that for cannabis to enhance your sex life the user had to be a long term frequent user of cannabis for the full effect, and only about a single joint was the optimal amount of weed to smoke for many users.

In conclusion; it seems that personal experiences and the amount of cannabis consumed are major factors in how cannabis will affect libido.
